We, too, attended the 13th Global Auction of Bianco d’Alba (the white truffle from Alba), witnessing a spectacle that combined promotion of the territory and charity. The event took place at the Castello di Grinzane, with Alberto Cirio live at the Island Tang restaurant in Hong Kong.
More than 240 thousand euros were collected, of which 16,500 will be donated to the municipality of Borghetto, which was recently flooded. Of the 12 truffles auctioned at the event, the most beautiful ones will be flying to Hong Kong: one weighed 503 grams and another 750, found at the same site by a dog with a name that already speaks volumes: Figo!
After the dances played out to the sound of bidding, the guests changed scene and headed to one of several restaurants for lunch: some went to the Ristorante al Castello (Grinzane), others to the Briccola (Grinzane) and still others, including ourselves, to the Ristorante il Vignaiolo (Roddi) where our Langhe Nebbiolo was served.
